Mountains have always been places of limitation and desire. A physical and symbolic space where human beings test their body, ingenuity, and ability to adapt. The exhibition “PEAKS. Stories of Sport and Mountains” explores these places, taking a journey from the first pioneering experiences to the arrival of sports tourism, from a life marked by the rhythms of nature and work to the era of leisure and free time.

It is the story of a transformation that – since the mid-twentieth century – has affected our Alps, altering not only landscapes and lifestyles, but the very image of the mountains.

The exhibition opens with a section dedicated to the history of the Olympics and winter sports, through posters, images, and testimonies that recount their evolution, with equal attention to the Paralympic movement. The second section offers a female perspective, bringing together the stories of female athletes and  the daily lives of women in the Alpine valleys. The third segment explores the relationship between sport and mountains: the challenges of tomorrow, including development, the environment, and sustainability.

In the garden, overlooking the Alps, a site-specific installation uses contemporary art to reflect on the landscape and its future.
