Milan Cortina 2026

Milan Cortina 2026 marks Italy’s return to the centre of the Olympic scene, twenty years after the last winter event hosted in the country. The 25th Winter Olympic Games is the third held in Italy, following Cortina d’Ampezzo 1956 and Turin 2006, and the fourth overall, including the summer edition held in Rome 1960.

The Winter Olympic Games will be held from February 6 to 22, 2026 (followed by the Winter Paralympic Games, scheduled for March 6 to 15, 2026) and will be a multi-regional event. In Lombardy, Milan hosts the Opening Ceremony and the ice competitions, including figure and speed skating, short track skating, and ice hockey; in Valtellina, Bormio hosts men’s alpine skiing and ski mountaineering, while Livigno hosts freestyle skiing and snowboarding. In Trentino-Alto Adige, Tesero and Predazzo host cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, and ski jumping, while Anterselva hosts biathlon. In Veneto, Cortina d’Ampezzo hosts women’s alpine skiing and the disciplines of bobsleigh, skeleton, luge, and curling. The Closing Ceremony is held in Verona’s historic Arena.

With approximately 47% of the total participants being female and 50 of the 116 events dedicated to women’s competitions, the Games aim to be the most gender-balanced edition in the history of the Winter Olympics.
